If you're stopping by this blog post, I just want to say thank you. As you read this, feel free to grab a snack (a personal favorite snack of mine is banana and peanut butter) and let's dive in to this topic, which is focused on"Purpose" and my desire to pursue creative projects. Hopefully this read will also encourage you to discover the purpose behind why you do what you do. Or even nudge you to do that dream that you've envisioned for yourself!
So, over the past few years, many of us have seen the millions of health fads that exist. We all have the urge to want to change our lifestyles for more positive outcomes, but why is this? Why do we want something positive in our lives? Why do we go to the extent of even changing our lifestyle to fulfill this desire of a positive lifestyle change?
Well beautiful people, through these upcoming blog posts, I would like to share with you my own personal journey. Also, I would like to share what made me come to realize the importance of "Purpose".
Health changes make you want to accommodate to what's currently going on. It typically makes individuals want to gain more control of their own health or to just let things be. If you want to make a change for the better; slow, consistent steps make for beautiful, more meaningful & lasting results.Sure, you may mess up along the way-don't be super strict to where you don't allow yourself to FORGIVE yourself. I've messed up so much in my own journey, and it's okay! When you mess up with your positive lifestyle change, admit it to yourself or even to someone (whether person or deity). This may hold you morally/mentally accountable for your own future decisions that you may make.
How does health tie in with my desire for art and positive lifestyle changes? In 2016 & 2017, something drastic had shifted and affected my life. Like a domino affect, my physical, emotional, & mental health all became effected. Having strong wholistic health allows clearer understanding of one's "Purpose". It allows one to realize why they even wake up, why do they do what they do, and what vision they have for themselves. This is also where the importance of Wholistic Health comes in.
Regarding a wholistic approach, in psychology there's a thing called "Compassion Fatigue". If the individual feels burned out, it eventually causes them to do other things-good or bad. However, if they choose to live a more positive life, it makes a great recipe to find purpose.Understanding this term could also promote awareness for better Wholistic Health.
This is where my passion for art comes in, (I told you to grab a snack, I knew this would be long) my passion for my purpose, & for wholistic health. Art has kind of been my saving grace, that and outreach in my community. I received my Bachelors Degree in Art and it helped me to understand that I wanted people to keep their hardships in mind and to make something positive from their own lives. The Bessie Smith Cultural Center in Chattanooga, TN reminded me of just that. It captures my culture and reminds me that hard times will pass. Poetess Maya Angelou said, "Every storm runs out of rain".
From a wholistic perspective, having the desire to make positive changes requires Purpose. Purpose requires health, health requires lifestyle changes. Lifestyle changes are like a domino affect-it affects everything else. The art piece that was painted from this digital portrait wasn't my strongest piece, no, but as I created it-I captured my message of getting through a hardship and fighting through struggles with wholistic health.
I find inspiration from others, as well as from attending a diverse university, and history as an African American. Those illustrated in this picture each had hardships, but left behind such legacies. As an African American, we came from a beautiful region and were treated inhumanely at one point, but each generation seemed to find a beautiful way to bounce back-DESPITE their hardships.
So just ask yourself this..."What is my purpose? Why do I do what I do? Have I made the appropriate lifestyle changes? How is my wholistic health?"
